Crassula Pubescens ssp. radicans
Small Red Carpet Stonecrop (Crassula pubescens ssp. radicans): This bushy ground cover originates from South Africa and is known for its tender nature. The Small Red Carpet Stonecrop features oval leaves that shift from green to vibrant red when exposed to bright sunlight. It thrives outdoors in frost-free areas but can also be a beautiful indoor plant, albeit less colorful. In late winter or spring, it produces clusters of tiny white flowers that beautifully contrast with its fiery red foliage. While soft succulents like this one do not tolerate hard frost, they can be moved indoors if freezing temperatures are anticipated. They require plenty of sunlight, excellent drainage, and infrequent watering to avoid rot. Choose containers with drainage holes and fill them with a well-draining cactus and succulent mix that contains 50% to 70% mineral grit, such as coarse sand, pumice, or perlite. Water thoroughly until it drains from the bottom, then allow the soil to dry completely before the next watering. Crassula leaves may display tiny white or black dots, which are actually healthy water-transferring pores known as "hydathodes," rather than indicators of disease.
